What To Do With A Pentatonic Scale
The most familiar type of scale is the “diatonic scale” which contains 8 scale notes in each octave. But there are other types of scales which have different numbers of notes. One is a chromatic scale, which contains all the notes of the diatonic scale plus 5 other notes, making 12 notes. Then there is a whole tone scale which has 7 notes.
There is also a 5-note scale called a pentatonic scale – “penta” means five. It is composed of the root, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th notes of a diatonic scale.
