Learn To Play Piano Songs On The Piano
Five Reasons Why Everyone Should Learn to Play Songs on the Piano
Playing the piano isn’t just for the musically inclined or gifted. True, some people naturally have an inborn talent for playing piano. This doesn’t mean, however, that others can’t learn to play songs on the piano.
Anyone can learn to play songs on the piano, just like anyone can learn math. Some people are naturally better at math than others. They are the ones who are able to perform advanced calculus equations. Everyone can learn to add and subtract though. The same is true for playing piano: piano playing is a basic skill that can be learned by everyone.
Not only that, but some very compelling reasons exist for learning piano. You don’t need to worry about trying to master chord theory. You need not even always learn to read music proficiently. Most importantly: you don’t have to become a virtuoso to reap the benefits. Here are five of those benefits:
1) Playing the piano increases mental acuity. Who doesn’t need more of that? Everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest senior, can benefit from increased mental acuity. People who learn to play songs on the piano have better concentration and problem-solving skills. Concrete thinking abilities (the kind required for performing math equations) are strengthened by practicing piano.
2) Playing the piano is comfort food for the soul. It’s an easy, convenient and pharmaceutical-free way to decrease tension and lower blood pressure. It can reduce stress and relax the heartbeat. Fifteen minutes of piano playing can be as soothing as a warm bath or a massage.
3) Playing the piano increases the potential for social connections. It can open up a whole new world of activity possibilities. Imagine being able to get together with other musicians just to “jam” for fun. Or, use it as a vehicle for spending more time with your children or spouse. Why not take a series of group lessons together? It’s a healthy way to spend time with someone special. It can also help you foster bonds and learn a new skill all at the same time. Plus, it’s a skill that you can take with you anywhere for the rest of your life.
4) Playing the piano helps to develop coordination. This is especially good for young children whose motor skills are just starting to develop. Even adults, however, can benefit from the increased coordination skills that result from regularly playing the piano. Better coordination translates into practical workplace skills like typing. Professionals who work with their hands regularly (i.e. doctors, mechanics, assembly-line workers, etc.) will find hand muscles becoming stronger. It also results in more honed athletic ability for sports like bowling, baseball, tennis, basketball, weight lifting and more.
5) It’s a great way to impress your friends. Let’s face it: there’s a little bit of a showman/woman in all of us. You’ll be able to sit down at the piano and accompany everyone at the party to the “Happy Birthday” song. Karaoke night may take on a whole new meaning after you learn to play songs on the piano. The bottom line is than playing the piano is just plain fun. Everyone can use a little bit more fun in their lives.
