Musical Phrases – What To Do On The Piano Between Them?
How To Create Fillers Between Musical Phrases
As you play through a song it soon becomes apparent that the song is composed of musical phrases instead of a constant flow. If it were not so, music would quickly becoming boring. Like in speech, a series of words needs to be broken into sentences and phrases instead of one big series of one word after another. Music, like speech, needs to rest, to breath, to pause – and not to be a monotonous line of notes.
So the question becomes “How do we as piano players fill up the empty spaces?”. Not that they all need to be filled up, but sometimes a filler is needed. Watch this short video for some ideas.
