Learning Music Theory From An Old Christmas Song (Video)
You can learn a lot about music theory just by paying close attention to a song – how many measures it has, how they are organized, how sections repeat, and so on, as well as analyzing the chords to see if there is a pattern. In this familiar old Christmas favorite we take a look at the FORM of the song and discover that 3 out of the 4 sections are basically the same, so once we learn the first section (8 measures) we have 3/4 of the song already learned!
Then by noticing that only 3 or 4 chords are being used in the song, we can learn the entire song very quickly. Watch this short video and you’ll understand:
