Instant Piano – Is It Really Possible?
Instant Piano – Yes Or No?
You see lots of ads promising that you can learn to play the piano in a very short time – such as Instant Piano. But is it really possible?
Good morning, this is Duane. Today I’d like to talk about instant piano. You see ads all the time in magazines and newspapers and so on with titles such as Instant Piano or Learn Piano in 15 Minutes or Play Piano Instantly, titles like that. I just want to address that today. Is it really possible? A lot of people ask if it’s possible. The answer is, yes and no. Mostly no, but there is some truth to it because you could play some simple things almost instantly. For example, I know it’s possible because I’ve done it many times is to teach a person how to play one song all the way through in just a few minutes, maybe half an hour or something like that. For example, if you have a song that just uses 5 notes, I’m going to use the song, “When The Saints Go Marching In.” You could teach them this. It’s just not that complicated, is it? You have 5 fingers, and there’s 5 notes, so you can learn that pattern pretty rapidly, at least within a half an hour you could do that. A lot of people could to it a lot faster than that. I’ve witnessed that myself.
If you use just 3 chords on the left hand, you can also play with both hands. If you learn that chord, the C chord and the G7th chord, that’s easy because I’m moving the bottom note down one, the middle note up one and leaving the top note where it is. That’s C, G7th, C. Then the F chord, you leave C on the bottom where it is and move the top 2 up. It’s not too hard to learn that in a very short time, those 3 chords. C, G7th and F. Then after a little bit you could teach them how to play both hands together like this. At the end of a half hour or hour or 15 minutes or it depends on the person’s adaptability, they could play that, so is instant piano possible? Yeah. If you’re talking about more than that, then the answer is definitely no. I mean, if you want to play that a lot fuller, it takes a long time to master that because there’s so many elements that go into it, coordination and knowing chords and chord substitutions and improvisation, all those aspects, and of course, that takes time.
I just wanted to cover that. Is it possible? Mostly. Is instant piano possible? Mostly no, but a little bit, yeah. Hope that helps a bit, and we’ll see you tomorrow with another short video like this. Bye-bye for now.
