C Minor Seventh Scale & Cm7 Chord: How To Get Started Improvising On It
C Minor Seventh Scale & Cm7 Chord: How To Get Started Improvising On It
Watch this short video on the Cm7 chord and the C minor seventh scale:
As you can see in the video, the C minor 7th scale and Cm7 chord are really almost the same as the Eb major scale and chord, because the C minor scale is relative to the Eb major scale. They serve different functions, however, but it’s helpful to know you are really dealing with the same entity (or nearly the same)
If you are just getting started improvising, first familiarize yourself with the notes of the scale and then pick 3 or 4 notes and build a motif, or theme, around them. Later you can use non-chordal tones, but for now, stick with the scale notes.
