C Major Chord: You Know It, But What Can You Do With It?
Everybody who has ever been around a piano knows the C major chord – C, E, and G. Those are the root note, 3rd and 5th of the C major scale. But it’s one thing to know a chord, and another thing altogether to know what to do with it.

Notice that the C major chord – symbol C – is based on the C major scale. A scale is a row of notes that climbs from the root note up a musical ladder to the octave note, and in the case of the C scale, that is all white keys: CDEFGABC.
