Middle C

     Why?

     Because that is where almost everyone who has ever played the piano started. No doubt Mozart and Bach and Beethoven started there when they began.

     Did they stay there?

     Of course not, and neither will you. The longest journey, say the Chinese, begins wtih the first step. So take that first step and play Middle C.

     Now.

     Did you play it?

     Good.

     Now play the note right above it -- like in the alphabet, the key right above C is D.

     Did you play it?

     Good.

     Now play the key right below C. What do you think that would be called?

     Correct -- that key is named B.

     I'm taking you through this silly little exercise to prove a point: you started with C, and now you know 3 times as much as you did a few seconds ago.

     That is called "exponential learning", and it is as true at the advanced level as it is at the beginning. Once you start, momentum takes over and you learn much faster than you ever thought possible
